The Ants’ Four-Part Philosophy
Jim Rohn has a very powerful philosophy that he calls the ant philosophy. He says that ants have a four-part philosophy.
1. An ant doesn’t quit.
Ants don’t worry about the details. They just do. Their job is to gather food. That’s all they do, and they’re very good at it. They don’t quit.
What about when you disrupt their ant line? The ants will search and search until they relocate the scent.
Don’t ever quit. If you lose your way, keep looking until you pick up the scent again
2. Ants are thinking about winter all summer long.
Why do they think winter? Because during the winter, they won’t be able to gather food. The summer’s all the time they have. Sometimes we spend too much time enjoying the summer that we don’t prepare for the inevitable winter. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t enjoy the summer. You should. But always remember, winter is coming.
Ants always remember that winter’s coming. A day doesn’t go by that they’re not preparing. Do you prepare a little everyday?
3. Ants think summer all winter.
I live in Minnesota. Sometimes it seems that summer won’t be coming this year. But it always does. Ants know this. Winter never lasts forever.
Although we may not be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel sometimes, it’s there. It might be just around the next corner. The sun will shine again. I promise.
4. During the summer, ants gather all they possibly can. Rohn calls this the all-they-possibly-can philosophy.
The seasons follow the same order. Always. Don’t be surprised that winter follows fall. It’s always the same.
Be prepared for the early snowstorm. Make sure your reserves are filled to overflowing.
The Ant Philosophy summarized:
1. Don’t quit.
2. Think winter all summer.
3. Summer is coming. Look forward to it.
4. Live by the all-you-possibly-can philosophy.
