Installing Your Blinds

by Maria Castronuevo

Although you may not have ever bought and installed blinds, do not worry, if you have chosen to buy some new blinds you can easily put them up yourself. All you need to be able to do is to take some measurements and use a hammer and screwdriver when installing them.

It is not overly difficult to install blinds no matter if you are male or female or young or old. The instructions are pretty basic and you will be amazed at how easy it really is.

It is essential that you have accurate measurements for the blinds that will be installed in your home. A proper fit both in height and width is very important for the operation of the blind and how it looks in your room. You don’t want to have window coverings that are too short or too long either. Now that you have all the correct measurements, it is time to go shopping for the blinds.

After you have them and bring them home, it is time to start the installation process.

First get a pencil. While holding your blinds in the spot where you want them to hang, mark the wall with the pencil on both sides of the blinds because this is where the brackets will go. Having done this will ensure that your brackets will be installed perfectly and the blinds will at the right height. Time to go get your hammer and screwdriver.

Wherever you made your pencil marks on the wall is where you are going to attach the brackets. Three or four small screws are used to attach the brackets to the wall. There are times when the screw won’t go directly into the wall so just take your hammer and tap the screw a couple times to get it started and then continue using the screwdriver. The brackets must be lined up exactly where your pencil lines are so that the width of the blinds is accurate. Remember to have the open side of the each bracket facing the front so that the blinds can slide into the brackets easily.

At this time you will be installing the blinds into the brackets. They should slide easily into the open ends of the brackets and they should also feel snug and secure. There is a small piece used to slide over the open side of the brackets that will lock the blinds in place and give your blinds a finished look.

Now simply stand back and admire your beautiful new blinds, installed perfectly by you without any professional help.
